The tank was a modernization of the M13/40 tank. The first tanks were produced in the summer of 1941. In contrast to M13/40, the vehicle was equipped with a more powerful engine, new air and fuel filters, so it was better adapted to the conditions prevailing in Africa. In total, 752 tanks were made.
