Developed as alternative to the AMX 50 heavy tank, France’s Lorraine company produced the Lorraine 40t in 1952. This 40-tonne medium tank featured an oscillating turret, a 100mm gun similar to the AMX 50’s, a drum autoloader, and pneumatic tires. Two prototypes were tested in 1953 and 1954, but the tank never entered mass production.
