Description: The term “celadon” was coined by connoisseurs and collectors of oriental pottery. According to one of the most popular versions, the word first appeared in France in the 17th century and came from the name of the hero of the novel “Astrea”, who decorated clothes with pale green ribbons. To create celadon products, a rare variety of bluish-gray clay was used. When the dishes dried up, they were covered with celadon glaze, consisting of plant ash and finely crushed porcelain stone. The chemical composition of the glaze contained an insignificant proportion of iron oxide, which gave the items an unusual green color during firing.
