The project of the heavy tank 111 was developed in the early 60s. The machine was based on the designs of the Soviet IS-2 and IS-3. She herself was supposed to become an analogue of the T-10. In addition to this, Chinese designers managed to get hold of developments on the ČKD turret of a Czechoslovakian heavy tank from the late 1950s, which they tried to use in one of the project variants.

Lo scafo del WZ-111 cinese offre una buona armatura a tutto tondo e una buona mobilità per un TT. Torre del Cecoslovacco Vz. 51 ti offre un’eccellente protezione della fronte e la possibilità di montare un comodo cannone da 105 mm che combina un’elevata cadenza di fuoco e un discreto danno da scoppio. Il carro armato è più efficace negli scontri a distanza ravvicinata e media.
