Historical references
A bit of history: the Chelyabinsk Tractor Plant Design Bureau took the initiative to develop this tank. The development process spanned from July 1943 to February 1944. By April 1944, they had manufactured the first prototype of Object 701, also known as No. 0.
After conducting long-term tests, they identified several design flaws. Consequently, in May and June 1944, they built two additional samples: No. 1 and No. 2. These vehicles underwent field testing in July and August of the same year. By September, they had completely dismantled them.
Interestingly, they later used the hulls and turrets of these dismantled vehicles to assemble two new samples: No. 5 and No. 6. This historical journey of Object 701’s development showcases the meticulous process of tank design and the continuous efforts for improvement.
