The Soviet Central Artillery Design Bureau, led by A. S. Chasovnikov, explored various initiatives, including reequipping foreign vehicles. One proposal involved repurposing the American M4A2 as a self-propelled gun (SPG). This project was considered in February 1944 but was not adopted due to the lack of modernization requirements.
