WoT Supertest: Felice – Italian tier 9 MT
Felice, an Italian Tier-9 premium medium tank, recently entered the World of Tanks supertest on May 29. Notably, this tank lacks any unique mechanics.
Historical Background:
Following World War II, Italy faced significant financial constraints that hindered substantial investments in tank development. By the late 1950s, the country had experimented with several tank concepts and maintained a fleet of American M47 tanks. However, these M47s fell short in terms of firepower, mobility, and armor capabilities.
The company responsible for licensed M47 production and maintenance took on the challenge. Leveraging the Prototipo-6 and Controcarro-1 projects as foundational ideas, they aimed to address the tank’s deficiencies. To accommodate the heavy turret from the Controcarro-1 (originally designed for heavy artillery systems), modifications were necessary. The base of the Prototipo-6 was extended, and engine power increased. An American air-cooled diesel engine replaced the original power unit, necessitating adjustments to the engine-transmission compartment. Additionally, components and equipment were sourced from the M47. Despite presenting the new vehicle project to Italian Armed Forces decision-makers in 1964, it never progressed to mass production.
