Work on the project began at the end of 1940, but due to problems with finding the right engine, the first prototype of the tank was ready only in early 1942. Mass production began in 1943 in Turin. After the surrender of Italy in the autumn of 1943, the tank was adopted by Germany under the name Panzerkampfwagen P40 737 (i) and was used in auxiliary units. In total, 100 such tanks were produced.
