Historical background
The development of the draft design of the NST (new medium tank) was carried out in 1966. One of the features of the project was a 4-bypass chassis with a drive for each bypass. A transmission with a hydrostatic transmission made it possible to regulate the amount of power transmitted to each track bypass. The project did not progress beyond the drawings.
