World of Tanks supertest – Vickers MBT Mark 3
A Brief History and Overview
The Vickers MBT Mark 3 is a British main battle tank that was developed in 1974 by Vickers Defence Systems. It is based on the Design No. 51400 T, which was an improved version of the Mark 1. The main difference between the Mark 1 and the Mark 3 is the turret design. The Mark 3 has a cast front and a fabricated armour plate body for the turret, which gives it better resistance to armour-piercing projectiles than the flat mantlet of the Mark 1. The Mark 3 also has a cast gun mantlet that is more aerodynamic and effective. Moreover, the Mark 3 has several other enhancements, such as a lower main gun depression of -10 degrees, a higher ammunition capacity of 50 rounds, and a more powerful engine.
The first order for the Mark 3 tanks came from the Kenyan Government in 1977. The Mark 3 was a successful export product for Vickers, as it secured several contracts with African countries. In 1977, Vickers agreed to a £100 million trade deal with Kenya, which involved the production of 76 Mark 3 MBTs and 7 Mark 3 ARV/ARRVs. These vehicles were manufactured at the Vickers Scotswood factory in Newcastle from 1977 to 1981.
