World of Warships Update 13.1 Part 1, preview: what’s New in the Upcoming Patch?
The new patch is coming soon, and developers have some exciting features to share with players. One of the main highlights of this update is the changes to submarines and ASW. Devs want to make the interactions between submarines and surface ships more consistent, while keeping the submarines’ combat effectiveness at the same level. Here are some of the changes that you can expect:
Surface Ship ASW Changes
Devs are changing the ASW capabilities of some surface ships, as follows:
Instead of Depth Charges, the Venezia and Hindenburg lines, as well as Prinz Eugen and Admiral Schröder, will get Depth Charge Airstrikes. The Depth Charge Airstrike range will increase for Tier V-VIII battleships. The Depth Charge Airstrike cooldown will decrease for both Tier V-VIII battleships and cruisers. However, the bomb damage will also decrease slightly for these ships. This means that you can use Depth Charge Airstrike more frequently but with less damage per use. Ships that have special ASW settings will not change, unless devs specify otherwise. For example, the Depth Charge Airstrike range will increase for Ohio, Thunderer, Jean Bart, and Jean Bart B. It will match the ranges of other battleships at their tiers. The Venezia, Zaō and Yodo lines, as well as the upcoming Commonwealth line, will get the Submarine Surveillance consumable in a separate slot.

Submarine Hydrophone Changes
Devs are also changing the Hydrophone consumable that submarines have, as follows:
The consumable will let submarines spot ships in range instantly, regardless of terrain (like Hydroacoustic Search and Surveillance Radar). The consumable will work in any state (on the surface, at periscope depth, or operational depth), but it will only detect ships at periscope depth or on the surface. When submarines use Hydrophone to detect ships above them and in their line of sight, they will see static silhouettes of these ships for a short time (about 6 seconds) and then they will disappear. Ships behind terrain will show up as a brief flash without a silhouette.
Collision Warning Message for Submarines
Devs are adding a collision warning message for submarines that are underwater and have another underwater submarine within 2 kilometers. This message will show up even if the enemy submarine is not spotted, and it will go away as soon as the enemy submarine moves out of the 2-kilometer radius in any direction (including resurfacing). Note that the message will not change if there are multiple submarines nearby. Submarine Turning Circle Radius Improvement
To balance the changes to ASW, devs are improving the turning circle radius of all submarines, so that they can maneuver and reposition better. On average, their turning circle will improve by around 20%.
Signal Effects Changes
These submarine changes will also affect the effects of two signals:
Sierra Bravo
- Submarine Surveillance Reload time: -10%*
- Hydrophone Reload time: -10%
*This also affects the consumable preparation time at the start of the battle
X-Ray Papa Unaone
- Dive Capacity: +5%
