Laid down just before the outbreak of World War I, USS Arizona was then declared to be the biggest and most powerful super-dreadnought ever built. In World of Warships, you can take the helm of this historical battleship in its 1941 configuration, with boosted anti-air armament and anti-torpedo bulges. Slow, but agile, Arizona is the poster child of American battleships from the former half of the 20th Century. Big guns and great armour guaranteed.

Devs on how to master USS Arizona
Designated as a Pennsylvania-class battleship, USS Arizona sank on 7 December 1941 during the Japanese raid on Pearl Harbor.
The primary targets of USS Arizona captains should be exposed cruisers and, of course, enemy battleships.
- Cruisers should be fired at whenever they expose themselves – this is the easiest way to quickly decrease the number of guns in the opposing team.
- On the other hand, you should always take advantage of the opportunity to fire at enemy battleships. Your 12 guns will cause substantial damage, even if you don’t penetrate their citadel.
However, the following adversaries should be feared:
- Japanese destroyers with long-range torpedoes.
- Tier VII and VIII battleships, especially those with 16” guns.
- Cruisers – the nature of the “All or nothing” armour scheme strongly facilitates “burning” Arizona to a crisp.
Strong points
- A powerful main battery consisting of 12 356-mm/45 main-calibre guns. Capable of a very heavy salvo and possessing acceptable ballistics and penetrability, good accuracy and (with proper modernisation) excellent range.
- Conveniently placed gun turrets, with equal firing potential from bow to stern (6 guns on each side).
- Powerful armour and above average anti-torpedo armament covering the majority of the hull’s length.
Weak points
- Speed: Just like most of its peers from the US tech-tree, USS Arizona is rather sluggish. When you set a course, you had better not change it afterwards.
- Slowness of the main battery towers: they are slow to reload and rotate very slowly.
- Very weak AA capabilities: better stick to your cruiser escorts to survive any threats from the air!
Recommended commander skills
- Basics of Survivability: A very important skill, because you will be set on fire often.
- Expert Marksman: With such a slow reload time, those shots better hit their target!
- Superintendent: Increases capacity of consumables.
Among the level 4-5 skills, there aren’t many useful for this particular ship. That is why taking a complete package of survivability skills from level 1 and 2 is the most beneficial.
Recommended Modernisations
- Main Armaments Modification 1
- Artillery Plotting Room Modification 1: The most important modernisation for Tier V-VII American Battleships, which allows for sufficient battle range.
- At your discretion.
- Damage Control System Modification 2: You will be set on fire rather often – the shorter the time of the fire burning, the easier it will be for you to survive and carry on.
